BONUS BLOG - JAN. 3, 2011 - "Luck"

I don’t consider myself to be a lucky kind of guy.  I am certainly not wealthy.  But I don’t have terrible luck.  And I do survive.

So every New Year’s Day I face the same dilemma.  The black-eyed peas and collards from a year ago didn’t seem to work.  The black-eyes didn’t help me get lucky.  And the collards didn’t help me win the lottery.  So what’s the point, right?

But what if I hadn’t cooked the peas and collards a year ago?  Would I have been even unluckier?  Would I have been even more broke?  It’s hard to imagine that could be even possible.  But I guess it is.  So, I cooked again this New Year’s Day.

I think this is some sort of Food Lion scam.  An annual sort of leafy vegetable, dry bean and pork clearance event.  More despicable even than Hallmark’s “Grandparent’s Day.”

But okay.  I will continue to fall for this.  Every year.  I just can’t bear to face the possible consequences if I don’t have peas and collards.
